Russia unleashed a major overnight assault on Ukraine, firing 51 missiles and 653 drones across the country as Ukraine marked Armed Forces Day, officials said Saturday. Ukraine’s air force reported successfully downing 585 drones and 30 missiles, but said 29 locations were struck.

At least eight people were injured nationwide, according to Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko. In the Kyiv region, local authorities reported at least three wounded. Drones were spotted as far west as the Lviv region.

Ukraine’s national energy operator Ukrenergo said the barrage targeted power stations and energy infrastructure, marking another attempt by Russia to damage the country’s grid as winter sets in.
