An application to establish a Domino's Pizza hot food takeaway within a fresh retail development in South Shields has been formally lodged. South Tyneside Council's planning division is now considering the proposal for the retail park currently being constructed near Claypath Lane and Crossgate in South Shields.

The town centre location previously accommodated an office building, though after its demolition the site remained unused for a number of years. In 2023, the council's planning division granted approval for commercial premises and a Starbucks drive-thru at the location, notwithstanding objections raised regarding traffic flow and air quality issues.
