ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Alexandria Police Department reported an ongoing investigation on December 6, following an apparent accidental shooting in the 100 block of Chester Street.

Officers said they arrived to the scene at around 11:45 a.m. Saturday after they received a report that an 8-year-old child had been shot.

Following an initial investigation, APD determined that a 10-year-old child along with the 8-year-old had found a gun and were playing with it. The gun reportedly discharged and hit the 8-year-old. APD said the child was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.
