STEPHENVILLE, Texas — In the second half of UND's game against Tarleton State in the second round of the FCS Playoffs, a small group of Texans fans stood in the corner of Memorial Stadium, took their shirts off in the 65-degree weather and whipped their shirts over their heads.
The group grew and grew during the second half, eventually collecting more than 100 fans.
Meanwhile, UND's play on the field could never put a damper on that party.
For a team that never lost by more than five points all season, everything was bigger in Texas — even the deficits.
Tarleton State quarterback Victor Gabalis threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns as the Texans pulled away from UND 31-13 to advance to the FCS quarterfinals against Villanova.
The Fighting Hawks' season ended at 8-6.
