John Hugley IV expressed plenty of gratitude.
After scoring a game-high 25 points to lift Duquesne (6-3) past Stony Brook (6-3) 84-75 on Saturday at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, he made a beeline for a group of children hovering over the railing in the stands.
Hugley removed his shoes and handed them to one of the kids. He assured the rest of them he would be back shortly for autographs.
The 6-foot-10 graduate student also checked off a considerable career milestone, eclipsing 1,000 points for his career. When speaking postgame, he gave thanks to his teammates and coaches before making an extra shoutout.
“I don’t know who threw me the assist,” Hugley said, “but I’ll shout him out.”
