With cold and flu season underway, a popular cough medicine is being recalled by Health Canada.

Certain bottles of Life Brand Mucus and Phlegm Relief Extra Strength cough syrup were listed for recall by the health agency on Friday after concerns they may have been stored outside recommended temperatures.

The product lot numbers associated with the recall are 12487, 12525, 12684, 12530 and 12691.

Anyone who has used the recalled product should consult their health care provider before discontinuing use of the product, Health Canada said in the recall notice on Friday.

Any side effects from using the cough syrup can be reported to Health Canada, according to the alert.
