WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The newly remodeled Carl Brewer Community Center had its grand reopening on Saturday morning in north Wichita.
Named in honor of former Wichita mayor Carl G. Brewer, the state-of-the-art center will offer a full schedule of recreational programs, educational opportunities and community services.
Brewer was a National Guard veteran and the 100th mayor of Wichita from 2007 to 2015. He died in 2020 at the age of 63 due to illness.
Brewer’s widow, Cathy Brewer, shared on Saturday that he’d be embarrassed to have something named after him, but that he would be proud of the center’s renovations and how it will benefit the community.
“He was a people person. He loved people. He loved doing things for people, and of course, his passion was barbeque - barbeque cooking,” C
