GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A man was shot and killed by Grand Rapids officers Saturday after he allegedly opened fire on them.
At a press conference Saturday evening, Deputy Chief Joe Trigg said the incident happened around noon Saturday in the 700 block of Strobel Avenue NW.
A woman had called 911 to report a domestic situation at her home. She allegedly told police that the suspect was now at his home and owned a gun.
Officers went to the home, but the man would not come to the door or answer questions.
Several hours later, the woman called again, reporting that the man was sending her threatening texts. Officers responded a second time to check on the man.
Trigg said investigators watched the man leave his home and get in a car before stopping him.
