MISSOULA — The Montana football team scored 30 unanswered points in a 27-minute stretch across the second and fourth quarters to steamroll its way into the quarterfinals.
The Grizzlies turned their 14-6 first-quarter deficit into a 22-14 halftime lead over South Dakota State on Saturday at Washington-Grizzly Stadium. They built the advantage to 36-14 as they won 50-29 in the second-round game.
The third-seeded Griz move on to host 11th-seeded South Dakota next week either Friday or Saturday. The Coyotes cruised to a 47-0 victory over sixth-seeded Mercer on the road earlier Saturday in the second round.
UM quarterback Keali'i Ah Yat threw for a career-high 360 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions on 29-of-37 passing. Running back Eli Gillman rushed for 135 yards and two scores
