We want kids, or anyone, to talk about what is bothering them instead of letting the first angry impulse run away with them. Guest columnist

It is deeply disturbing that violence has occurred in schools in Iowa City. An incident of child violence that drove a teacher out of her profession, as described in an Oct. 19 guest essay, calls for stronger response. The teacher reported that she was repeatedly attacked by one former student who tried to throttle her.

If this seasoned teacher didn’t feel safe anymore in her school, something is wrong. We cannot let violence become normalized. It concerns all of us: parents, grandparents, teachers, the school system and the entire community.
