SALT LAKE CITY — Green River Mayor Ren Hatt was killed in a crash on Highway 6 Friday night after the vehicle he was driving was hit by a semitruck.
Green River City said the recently re-elected 40-year-old mayor was headed back to the city when the crash happened just eight miles away from Green River.
According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, the 9:40 p.m. crash occurred after a 2021 Freightliner semi hit a 2020 Hyundai Palisade, which Hatt was driving.
The UDPS said the semitruck was heading westbound while Hatt was traveling eastbound, when the semi “drifted into the eastbound lanes and struck the front passenger side (head-on) of the Hyundai.”
Hatt was killed in the collision and the driver of the semi was uninjured, according to the UDPS.
“The investigation is ongoing,”
