Nightclub situated in backwaters of Arpora river, has a narrow entry and exit; there was no access for the fire brigades to the club, eyewitnesses said

At least 100 persons were on the dance floor of a nightclub in North Goa, Birch by Romeo Lane, when a fire broke out there. The commotion led many to a death trap, downstairs into its basement kitchen, where they got trapped with the staff, eyewitnesses said. At least 25 people are reported dead — 14 of them staff members, four tourists, and some locals.

While the state police said the blaze occurred at the nightclub due to a cylinder blast after midnight on Sunday, some of the eyewitnesses claimed the fire started on the club's first floor, where tourists were dancing.
