ATLANTA — Ten years to the day from the official announcement that Kirby Smart was returning to his alma mater as Georgia football coach, another trophy was secured to add to the Bulldogs' championship hardware.
Smart won his fourth SEC championship game as Bulldogs coach, putting him one behind Steve Spurrier at Florida.
University of Georgia president Jere Morehead knew without being told that the hire was 10 years ago.
“It’s turned out pretty well,” he told the Athens Banner-Herald.
Third-ranked Georgia’s 28-7 takedown of CFP No. 9 Alabama went more than pretty well in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
This rematch against Alabama was the same score as Smart’s first SEC championship as head coach in 2017 in another rematch game from the regular season against Auburn.
