The first of multiple clipper systems heading toward the Chicago area is expected to blanket the region in several inches of snow and likely leave roads dangerously slippery.
Starting at midnight Saturday, a winter weather advisory is in effect through 9 a.m. Sunday for Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and northern Will counties.
The snowfall will be moderate to heavy at times, according to NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Pete Sack. As the snow continues, temperatures will drop into the low-to-mid 20s.
Conditions are expected to be clear until midnight Saturday, followed by several hours of snowfall through Sunday morning that could drop between 2 to 5 inches of snow.
Salt spreaders and plows will be out across the region in response to the weather system.
