That Minnesota state government was oblivious to a fraud which the New York Times described as “staggering in its scale and brazenness” should not have come as a surprise to anyone following Ohio’s teacher retirement system brouhaha.

The nation recently learned that Gov. Tim Walz’s administration looked away as coronavirus pandemic funds were brazenly raided by fraudsters, mostly in Minnesota’s Somali community. The governor’s administration was so fearful of being accused of racism that it shied away from protecting taxpayers and allowed more than $1 billion to be paid out for false claims.

Before this came to light, The Blade Editorial Board called out Governor Walz for ignoring a questionable assertion about fund management under the Minnesota teachers’ retirement system.
