SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
The owner of a Stockton property, where a deadly mass shooting took place during a child's birthday party, revealed that the site was being used illegally as a banquet hall, contrary to its intended lease for office and video creative purposes.
"I owned this since 2018. We never had any single incident or anything like, you know, bad," the owner said.
The mass shooting, which claimed the lives of four people and injured more than a dozen others, happened near Lucile Avenue, where over a hundred people were celebrating a child's second birthday party. The property owner stated that the original leasing intent was not being followed.
"This property is not zoned for or approved for the banquet hall party. So that was illegal," he said.
