BENTONVILLE -- The School District is seeing an increasing number of motorists who illegally pass stopped school buses, bucking recent state and national trends.

Bentonville School District bus drivers reported in recent months an uptick in instances where motorists illegally pass a stopped school bus -- a total of 198 incidents from September through October alone, according to district data.

This trend counters state and national data suggesting these incidents have become less frequent in most places in recent years.

The School District is now collaborating with local police departments and has upgraded bus stop technology in an attempt to curb illegal passing incidents. These measures come after School Board members noticed a high number of these traffic violations in a report prese
