The decisive moment came when Darian Mensah found Jeremiah Hasley for a 1-yard touchdown on fourth down in overtime, and the unranked Blue Devils then protected the lead by stopping Virginia’s ensuing possession.

With the victory, Duke improved to 8–5. Although the Blue Devils are not expected to qualify for the playoff, their win likely opens the door for a second Group of Five team — most likely James Madison — to enter the field.
