STOCKTON, Calif. —

Hundreds gathered at Weber Point for Stockton's Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, providing a moment of unity and hope exactly one week after a mass shooting left 13 people injured and four young people dead.

Music, lights, and performances welcomed attendees, with security measures in place to ensure families felt safe. One council member noted that this might be one of the biggest turnouts the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony has seen.

"I hope what this means to our community is that you can still have some joy, that there is hope out there for a better day and that they feel safe being here,” Mayor Christina Fugazi said. "This is how we can have a little joy, even though we're still feeling the heartbreak of just one week ago tonight."
