Teenagers across western Colorado can contribute to the fight against youth suicides by sharing their insights with a University of Colorado School of Medicine research team.

Those perspectives will construct an intervention strategy for teenagers at an elevated risk of suicidality, which CU School of Medicine Associate Pediatrics Professor Maya Haasz said is largely exclusive to teenagers already experiencing acute suicidal thoughts.

She added that the intervention will be offered as a tool to all health care providers, like emergency department doctors and primary care physicians, since many teenagers are not evaluated by a behavioral health specialist unless they screen for active suicidal thoughts.
