Blue Badges can prove a huge boost to life for those in need. They allow those with disabilities or certain health conditions to park closer to their destination, opening up access to those with walking problems, but there are strict rules around eligibility and over where badge-holders can park .

Some people can automatically qualify, such as those receiving the higher mobility rate of Disability Living Allowance ; those receiving a Personal Independence Payment because they cannot walk more than 50 metres - a score of eight points or more in the ‘moving around’ mobility category; those registered blind or severely sight-impaired and those receiving a War Pensioners’ Mobility
