The government of Benin has restored stability following a short-lived coup attempt. On Sunday, soldiers opposed to the government commandeered state television, proclaiming their control, only to be swiftly countered by forces loyal to the sitting administration.
Foreign Minister Olushegun Adjadi Bakari confirmed that the coup plotters managed to capture state TV briefly. However, their control was limited, as loyalist soldiers quickly reasserted authority, ensuring the situation remained firmly in government hands.
Bakari emphasized that the coup attempt involved just a small faction of the military, with the vast majority remaining loyal to the government. The takeover resulted in the temporary interruption of state TV broadcast, but communications have since been restored.
