Wirral Council has given officers permission to search for millions of pounds in external funding to conduct major works needed to save the popular West Kirby Marine Lake.

The council report states that a failure to take action would cause large areas of the lake to become unusable due to the buildup of 70,000 cubic metres of sand and silt , putting the lake's future in doubt.

The planned works include repairing 1km of the outer wall, draining the lake, and dredging the sludge from the bottom.

The total cost for these necessary repairs is estimated to be between £3.9 million and £6.3 million.
