An apartment fire overnight sent two people to the hospital. The response was very labor intensive for firefighters, according to fire officials.
The fire broke out just after midnight Sunday at River View Tower on W Martin Luther King Blvd.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire in the trash chute, which filled multiple floors of the building with smoke.
Firefighters evacuated residents and had the fire out by 12:41am. However, they continued to remove smoke from the building.
First responders took two residents to the hospital for smoke inhalation, and one firefighter was checked for exhaustion, but not transported.
Damages displaced five total residents, but property management said they will provide them other rooms in the tower.
