Each passing day, as fewer and fewer survivors remain to bear witness, the narrative of Pearl Harbor stands at real risk of becoming lost.

That morning, 2,403 Americans died , including 2,008 sailors, 109 Marines, 218 Army personnel and 68 civilians, with more than 1,100 wounded.

Sixteen of the fleet's 100 ships were damaged, with two being destroyed. The single-largest set of casualties occurred on one of them, the USS Arizona, which was sunk and where her sailors still lie.

Every community, including this one, has a direct connection to the moment that changed America forever; from the personnel already stationed there, to the thousands of Americans who rushed to recruitment offices on the Monday morning after the carnage.
