The Akron Beacon Journal recently published two columns that couldn’t disagree more about socialism, capitalism and Ohio’s future. But what struck me was how both writers left out the people who don’t sit in think tanks or political campaigns — the folks who actually live with the consequences.
Matthew Charlebois argued that New York’s socialist mayoral win shows a new path ("For Ohio's future, look beyond capitalism as socialists resurge," Nov. 16). He said working families are being hammered by costs, wages are stuck, and maybe socialist candidates like Greg Levy, who is aiming for the U.S. Senate, can shake things up by challenging capitalism.
Then came the rebuttal, wagging a finger at socialism and quoting Milton Friedman about monetary policy — as if the average family jugglin
