Laclede County, Mo. (KY3) - A group in Laclede County is trying to save a local piece of history.
The Laclede County Historical Society is hoping to restore a building with ties to the original Route 66 and major history in Laclede County. The Benton Stagecoach Log Cabin was built in the 1840s, before Laclede County existed.
“When the coaches come from Rolla, Missouri, they would stop here to refresh their horses and maybe get a little bite to eat and then change their horses out. So it’s historical to Route 66,” said Noah Smothers, Laclede County Historical Society President.
The cabin served as a stagecoach stop during the Civil War era before it was moved from its original location. Now the current owner and the Laclede County Historical Society have agreed to move it for restoration
