Two teams that went undefeated at tournaments the week before were the last ones standing when the 62nd Standard Boys High School Basketball Tournament wrapped up on Friday night.

The No. 1 seed Denis Morris Reds defeated the second-seeded Governor Simcoe Redcoats 59-48 for the overall title in the nightcap of a championship doubleheader at St. Catharines Collegiate after the Westlane Spartans downed the E.L. Crossley Cyclone 74-54 in the consolation final.

Xavier Griffith, a Grade 11 student at Denis Morris competing in his first Standard Tournament, was selected as the tournament’s most valuable player, while the Laura Secord Patriots won the Referees Trophy as the most sportsmanlike team.
