Berlin: Germany’s foreign minister Johann Wadephul has arrived in Beijing for his first official visit as Berlin adopts a tougher approach toward China in trade, security and diplomatic relations. His visit comes after a previously scheduled trip was postponed earlier this year when Beijing agreed to only one of the meetings requested by Berlin.
The German government has recently increased pressure on China over trade practices, supply chain risks and access to key raw materials such as rare earths and semiconductor components. Berlin has set up a special expert panel to study economic dependence on China and recommend ways to reduce critical supply risks.
Wadephul is expected to raise concerns over China’s export restrictions, which Germany says have already affected the manufacturing
