Baseball’s all-time leader in home runs by a second baseman is going to Cooperstown, and he started his career with the Blue Jays .
Jeff Kent was elected to the Hall of Fame by the contemporary era committee on Sunday, the only player on the eight-man ballot who picked up the necessary 12 votes from the 16-person committee , getting 14.
He’ll be inducted this July, along with any players voted in on the writers’ ballot, the results of which will be revealed next month.
Jays icon Carlos Delgado got nine votes, the second-highest total.
Don Mattingly , the Jays bench coach for the last three seasons, and two-time National League MVP Dale Murphy picked up six votes each.
Delgado, Mattingly and Murphy may be considered again in three years.
