Panaji: A devastating fire believed to have been triggered by electric firecrackers tore through the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora late Saturday night, killing 25 people. The flames spread rapidly after the firecrackers reportedly ignited the wooden ceiling during a late evening event, trapping many people inside as smoke filled the building. Among the victims were five tourists, while the majority were staff members working at the venue.

Six others are receiving treatment in hospitals with injuries linked to burns and smoke inhalation. Rescuers say several people were found near the staircases and basement exits where there was little room to escape.

Police have filed a case of culpable homicide and arrested four senior employees from the establishment. A wider investigation
