Two 14-year-old boys have been charged with aggravated assault after a student was stabbed at a Portage la Prairie high school.

The victim, 15, was wounded during a confrontation between a group of boys in the student parking lot at Portage Collegiate Institute at about 3:50 p.m. Thursday.

He was taken to hospital in stable condition and “is expected to make a full recovery,” Manitoba RCMP said in a news release Friday.

The student sought help from school staff members, who gave the teen first-aid before emergency crews arrived, Portage la Prairie School Division superintendent Pamela Graham said in a statement.

The school was put into a hold-and-secure protocol as RCMP searched for suspects. The protocol was lifted shortly after 5 p.m.
