A protest by Thamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) against an alleged illegal liquor bar at a recreation centre in Tamil Nadu’s Dharmapuri turned tense on Sunday after party cadres attempted to force their way into the premises.

TVK functionary Siva said the party had been seeking permission to protest for the past 15 days. He alleged that the recreation centre was being misused and claimed that with a Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) bar located nearby, illegal activities were taking place.

He further alleged that police had not responded to the party’s queries about those involved and said the protest was aimed at finding a permanent solution.

The situation escalated when TVK cadres forcefully entered the property, following which police blocked them.
