U.S. Rep. Morgan McGarvey will reintroduce the Justice for Breonna Taylor Act, a bill aimed at ending no-knock warrants nationally, a spokesperson confirmed to The Courier Journal.
The bill, named after Taylor, aims to ban warrants similar to the one used by Louisville Metro Police officers who entered her apartment in the early morning hours of March 13, 2020. Taylor, a Black woman, was shot and killed by police at the scene, and her death led to daily protests in Louisville that summer and fall and other demonstrations around the U.S. that took place in the aftermath of the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
The bill is co-led by Sens. Rand Paul and Cory Booker, a New Jersey Democrat, as well as U.S. Reps. Yvette Clarke, D-New York, and Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas. Taylor
