When I was but a young college boy with a glint in his eye and a half-eaten pack of Sour Patch Kids in his cargo shorts, an English professor recommended that I read the novel House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. Obviously, it was difficult for me to find time for this in between all the wild parties and crazy adventures of college. (OK, OK, I spent like 85% of my time in the library, and the other 15% wishing I was in the library.) But as soon as I opened the monumental literary horror novel, I was hooked. Danielewski gets real funky with this one – it’s full of textual trickery, constantly playing with form in a way that doesn’t feel ostentatious but instead like a natural extension of the labyrinth
