Wastewater has no place on the property tax bill, the Town of Grimsby has decided.
In alignment with just about every other municipality in Ontario, all water and wastewater charges will entirely be covered through the water bill starting next year.
“We’re moving to a 100 per cent rate-based recovery model for water and wastewater,” said Tony Del Monaco, the town’s director of finance and treasurer. “What that means is that no portion of the wastewater costs will be on the (property) tax bill any longer.”
About 9,700 homeowners, businesses and other organizations receive water bills from the town.
Starting next year, all water and wastewater charges will be on the water bill, which has been the practice of other municipalities in the province.
