BLOOMINGTON ( 25News Now ) - Changes are planned for the way Bloomington residents can get rid of bulk waste because city officials said some have abused the current method of dropping off the garbage free of charge.
Since 2018, people have been encouraged to haul their bulk waste at no cost to the Citizen Convenience Center , near Downtown Bloomington, while at the same time, the city has provided weekly curbside service at a cost of $25 per bucket and twice-a-year free bulk waste pickup.
City staffers said in a memo that the convenience center has “consistently been exploited, mostly by landlords and contractors.”
They have regularly brought multiple loads of bulk waste each week to the Convenience Center, free of charge, staffers said.
