MALIBU, Calif. (KABC) -- The city of Malibu will vote on a plan that will pave the way for the city's separation from the Santa Monica-Malibu School District.
District board members voted in favor of the split agreement last week. During a meeting Monday evening, the Malibu City Council will take up the issue of creating an independent school district that addresses the unique needs of their community.
The council will review several elements of the separation package, including how property tax revenues will be distributed between the two future districts, and the transition of staff, facilities, programs and services.
Some parents are in favor of the split, with many saying it's something community members have been pushing for for decades.
