A harsh cold spell is set to grip the UK, potentially arriving within days. Despite a relatively mild December thus far, this is about to be abruptly disrupted as a significant snowfall is predicted to cover 14 counties.
Following a gentle fortnight, the weather is expected to take a sharp turn towards the colder side, according to weather charts. WXCHARTS weather maps have adopted a purple and white hue, signalling imminent snowfall.
Parts of the country could see snow as early as Friday, December 12, with a wintry front moving in.
At 3am on December 12, residents in Argyll and Bute and the Highlands may wake up to a snowy scene. Large areas of the Highlands are forecasted to receive 1mm of snow per hour, while those in Argyll and Bute can expect half that amount.
