Health officials fear of a severe sickness season as flu activity increases in Monroe County and in surrounding regions.

In Monroe County 410 flu cases were reported in the last week of November which was a 51% increase from the previous week.

Dr. Michael Apostolakos, chief medical officer of Strong Memorial and Highland hospitals, described how they are seeing a rise in influenza in the community at Strong Memorial Hospital.
