Two people were killed in an ice fishing accident after falling through ice on Island Lake in Kalkaska Township on Friday, Dec. 6, the Kalkaska County Sheriff's Office announced in a news release.

The victims included 22-year-old Johnathan Brake, of Kalkaska, and a 13-year-old who was not identified by police. A 14-year-old boy, whose name was not released, and who also fell through the ice shortly before 11 p.m., Friday escaped from the water and was transported to Kalkaska Memorial Health Center where he was treated and released, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies were dispatched to Island Lake Road and Dockery Road at about 10:56 p.m. Friday in response to a person yelling for help on the lake.
