An investigation was underway after a girl died following a go-kart accident at an Urban Air in Port St. Lucie over the weekend, police said.

Port St. Lucie Police said they received a 911 call on Saturday night from Urban Air staff who reported the incident.

When officers arrived, first responders were treating the child, who was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Pierce, police said.

Police said they learned on Sunday that the child had died from her injuries.

Officials haven't released the girl's identity but NBC affiliate WPTV reported that she was 6 years old.

Police said detectives are investigating the incident and notified the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
