BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A new report from the University of Vermont Bee Lab shows unprecedented colony losses for honeybees during this past season.

The survey took data from about 6,400 colonies. It shows that more than half of them, 56.08%, were lost.

That’s about on par with the national numbers.

Bee experts blame pesticide exposure, Varroa mites, nutrition and diseases.

The Vermont Beekeepers Association is urging Vermont leaders and agriculture partners to take immediate action to stem the losses.
