SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- As these cold winter temperatures continue, homeowners are turning up the thermostat to stay warm, but concern is building for some Eversource customers, who are seeing their electric bills spike and they claim new smart meters may be to blame.

Margaret Tebaldi has lived in the same home in Springfield’s Pine Point neighborhood for decades and she showed us something very interesting. She paid just over $200 for her October bill, then she received a zero bill, but we don’t know if that was for last month. It’s unclear if there are any other customers who received a bill like that.
