While state health officials aren't changing their recommendations on hepatitis B vaccines for newborns, they don't know what recent federal changes will ultimately cost Vermonters, if anything.
On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) voted 8-3 to recommend "individual-based decision-making" on whether a newborn should get vaccinated against hepatitis B. This would be for cases where the mother has tested negative for the virus, and that infants who don't get the shot at birth should wait at least two months before getting one.
