High wind warnings and watches from the National Weather Service are advising Northern Colorado residents to expect big gusts Dec. 9.

These winds could cause power outages and make travel difficult, according to the NWS, and if a new fire were to ignite, it could easily spread.

The worst of the wind is expected in the foothills and to the west, where gusts up to 90 mph are possible, but wind gusts around the Fort Collins area could reach up to 75 miles per hour, according to the forecast.

Wind description: West winds 35 to 50 mph with gusts 80 to 90 mph possible.

When: From midnight Dec. 8 to midnight Dec. 9.
