BERLIN, Vt. (WCAX) - While therapy dogs are common, felines are newer to the certified therapy world, but one Maine coon in Vermont is proving cats can get the job done, too.

An extra special weekly guest visits residents at the Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing facility in Berlin-- Toby the therapy cat.

“Toby Tuesdays is a very special day at Woodridge,” said Kayla Lozier of Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing.

Toby’s owner, Lisa Lovelette, started by volunteering at Woodridge with her therapy dog, but she says there was a lack of connection between him and the patients.

“There’s a level of intimacy that a cat on a lap offers residents that dogs standing on a floor-- it’s just not the same thing,” Lovelette said. “I just started wondering, I wonder if I could train a cat to do the
