LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – People who applied for the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Residential Safe Room Grant Program should soon be getting notices if they’ve been selected for the reimbursement grants.
The reimbursement grant program will provide up to $3,500 to help homeowners install a FEMA-compliant safe room/storm shelter on their property.
MEMA budgeted for 38 recipients from each of Mississippi’s 82 counties, just over three thousand potential recipients.
They received 11,000 applications.
Recipients are being chosen lottery-style.
In the counties that had fewer than 38 applicants, the remaining grants were placed into a second lottery.
