STATE COLLEGE — Matt Campbell has yet to coach a game at Penn State . Only after a few dozen of those will we truly know if athletic director Pat Kraft made a home-run hire.

But on Monday afternoon, Campbell earned his first win as a Nittany Lion.

Standing inside the Beaver Stadium media room, steps away from the field he’ll coach on and the tunnel he’ll run out of for years to come, Campbell introduced himself as Penn State’s next head coach. And it was then that it became obvious why he was the end result of a long and winding search.
