An advocacy group representing immigrants is suing the state of Indiana in federal court after it says dozens of its clients were improperly denied food stamp benefits because of their citizenship status.

Exodus Refugee Immigration Inc., which serves asylum seekers, refugees and other immigrants in Indiana, alleges in its Dec. 2 lawsuit that the state has been terminating the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP, benefits of noncitizens unless they meet certain requirements laid out in President Donald Trump's recently passed One Big Beautiful Bill.

At least 40 of Exodus' clients have been impacted so far, receiving SNAP termination notices from the Family and Social Services Agency, the state agency that administers the food assistance.
